Indian batter Virat Kohli has informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that he will be missing India’s warm-up match of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 against Bangladesh due to late arrival in the United States, reported The Indian Express on Sunday.
Kohli was representing Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 where he took the team to the playoffs. He is the top-scorer of the tournament with 741 runs in 15 innings.
The first batch of Indian players, who did not play in IPL playoffs, left for the USA on Saturday evening including their captain Rohit Sharma and others.
“Kohli had informed us way beforehand that he will be joining the team late and that is why the BCCI has kept his visa appointment for a later date. He is expected to fly out to New York in the early morning of May 30th. The BCCI has agreed to his request,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by the publication.
Apart from Kohli, India’s T20I vice-captain Hardik Pandya along with wicketkeeper batter Sanju Samson will be joining Rohit Sharma and Co. later this month.
Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Shivam Dube, Mohammed Siraj, Axar Patel and Shubman Gill left India on Saturday night for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
